Lithuanian elections: the Stork vs the Swallow

Lithuanian elections: the Stork vs the Swallow

In 2016 the Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union emerged seemingly out of nowhere to win the parliamentary election and to form the government. Over the last four years they have managed to establish themselves as the main center-left party in Lithuania, while alienating many younger, urban and more well-off voters. After four years, the main contender to oust the Farmers from the government is the conservative Homeland Union. As Lithuanian people go to the polls on 25th October for the second round of voting, the question still remains, which will soar higher: the Stork of the Farmers or the Swallow of the Homeland Union?

Join our alumnus, Dr. Lukas Pukelis, for the Skytte Election Analysis seminar on Lithuanian parliamentary elections, taking place on October 27th from 14:15-15:30 on Zoom (Passcode: 284287).

The discussion covers the election campaign, the results, and the possible implications of the Lithuanian elections.

The event is moderated by Dr. Heiko Pääbo.

Lukas Pukelis has an MA degree from the University of Tartu’s Baltic Sea Region Studies programme (2013), as well as a PhD from the Skytte Institute from 2018. His doctoral dissertation explored the role of informal mutual oversight mechanisms in the functioning of coalition governments on the basis of Baltic states. He has served as a country coordinator for Lithuania in the „Varieties of Democracy (VDem)“ project since 2013, and is currently working as a Lead Data Scientist with a focus on higher education and research policy-related projects at PPMI.

NB! The webinar is live and will not be recorded.
