In June 2024, researchers from the Centre for Applied Social Sciences within our institute presented final findings and policy suggestions from the project “TeamHUB! Delivering sustainability to the e-commerce supply chain.” The presentation occurred at the CGIL national headquarters in Rome in front of various social partners and stakeholders and served to spark discussion about the future of employment and regulation in the e-commerce industry. Results will be shared with the DG for Employment, Social Affairs, and Inclusion. The project is funded by the European Union.
It was clear from the presentation and discussions that efforts should be made to hold e-commerce and logistics firms accountable for employment and environmental impacts, especially in the case of casual or sub-contracted labor. The policy paths to accomplish this range from national and EU level legislation to grass-roots labor organization. Of particular interest in the case of Estonia: virtually no organized labor or social partner involvement was found in this industry within Estonia.
More information and the final reports in both English and Estonian can be found on the TeamHUB website!
