On 12 September, the Skytte Institute welcomed a group of students and staff from Stanford University as part of their study trip to the Baltic states. The visit focused on Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine and its wider implications for Estonia.

The Johan Skytte Institute of Political Studies and the Ukraine Centre of the University of Tartu are participating in the international project RESTART, which aims to enhance the research and innovation capacity of Sumy State University in Ukraine and support its integration into the international research community.

Skytte Institute contributes to institutional capacity-building at universities in the Western Balkans through its participation in an Erasmus+ capacity-building project in higher education entitled "Triggering Resilience in Up-and-coming Security Threats" (TRUST).

In August 2026, experienced ambassador and foreign and security policy expert Jüri Luik joined the Johan Skytte Institute of Political Studies as Visiting Professor of International Relations and Diplomacy for the coming year.

The Johan Skytte Institute of Political Studies at the University of Tartu, in collaboration with partners from the Erasmus+ project Alliance for Community Engagement in European Higher Education (ACE), is organising the official launch event of the ACE Alliance. The event will take place on September 17 from 10:00 to 12:00 at the University of Tartu Library Conference Centre (W. Struve 1, room Kodavere).

On 12 June, representatives of Canadian universities participating in the Canada–Baltics Education in Defence Partnership Mission visited the University of Tartu.

Data collection for the European Social Survey will begin in Estonia in June. The survey has been conducted in Estonia every two years since 2004. This time, in addition to trust, wellbeing, attitudes and values, the survey will focus more closely on people’s attitudes towards immigration..

European Doctoral Day is held on 13 May to inspire students to pursue doctoral education, increase employers’ awareness of the value of doctoral degrees, and showcase the diverse career opportunities.
