Study trip to Ämari airbase

On March 10, the MA-students and staff of the Johan Skytte Institute of Political Studies visited Ämari airbase.

Over the course of the study tour the participants were given an overview of the structure and tasks of the Estonian Air Forces, as well as of the work of the German Air Forces currently stationed in Ämari as part of NATO’s Baltic Air Policing mission. In between the lectures and the questions and answers sessions, there was a chance to see one of the Eurofighter aircraft used by the German forces, and watch the take-off of fighters going out for an observation flight. Study visit ended with a meeting with the German Ambassador to Estonia, Mr Christoph Eichhorn, who answered questions concerning the overall German defence and security policy.

Johan Skytte Institute of Political Studies wishes to express gratitude to Ambassador Mr Christoph Eichhorn, air base commander Ülar Lõhmus and wing commander Björn Andersen for facilitating the organisation of this study tour.
