The Johan Skytte Institute of Political Studies successfully concluded the first edition of the online training “Digital Educator ABC”, which is aimed at strengthening digital competencies among higher education teaching staff in Moldova. Running from September 2 to September 29, 2024, the course equipped 30 educators with essential skills for integrating digital tools into their teaching practices, fostering enhanced e-learning quality across several key Moldovan universities. Educators from Moldova State University, Free International University of Moldova, „Stefan Cel Mare” Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Moldova, and the University of European Studies of Moldova participated in the course.
The Digital Educator ABC course, conducted fully online via the University of Tartu's Moodle platform, provided participants with practical knowledge on digital resource integration, copyright laws, digital assessment methods, and online teaching strategies. The training consists of four modules, each focusing on critical aspects of digital teaching: working with digital resources, creating visual learning tools, developing digital assessments, and utilizing advanced online teaching techniques. In addition to asynchronous activities on Moodle, the participants had the opportunity to engaged in synchronous weekly Zoom webinars to discuss module topics and collaborate on group tasks.
The training was offered as part of the broader Estonia's Best Practices for Enhancement of Moldova's Higher Education Capacities (EST4MORE) project. In addition to advancing digital competencies, the project aims to support Moldova’s European integration by equipping educators, master’s, and doctoral students with the skills necessary to navigate a digitally enhanced education environment and a competitive labour market.
Anna Beitane, the course instructor, emphasized the relevance of the training for Moldova’s teaching staff: “This course was essential for enhancing the digital competencies of educators in Moldova. It provided practical tools that can be immediately applied in their classrooms, helping to ensure high-quality online education. Moldova can draw valuable lessons from Estonia’s experience, particularly in digital didactics and e-learning quality assurance, which will greatly benefit their higher education system.”
The second edition of the training will be offered between November 4 to November 24.
