Meet Anna Beitane – Manager of Online Learning Projects and our Institute no.1 rescue in the current situation, since all the in-class teaching activities in the University of Tartu are suspended.

Below are Anna’s suggestions on how to get started with planning the online teaching activities:

1. Start simple and don’t over-complicate the whole process, especially if you are new to Moodle, Panopto or other e-learning tools. It might take some time to master these programs properly, so start with the basics and move step-by-step.
2. Try to develop a template for your online lectures and slides. This will help you to reduce some time in preparation for next classes and it will also add more consistency to your course structure. Moreover, students will get a better sense of what to expect in the upcoming weeks.
3. Online teaching will require a different approach. Remember that not all in-class teaching activities could be easily transferred online!
4. Provide students with more detailed instructions in regard to their expected tasks, so your students have a clear sense of what is expected from them.
5. Remember that your communication with students is now limited. You can think about developing a schedule for posting your communication announcements - it serves two purposes: a) develops a predictable pattern for students b) reduces your time for preparations and planning. It is true that at the beginning it might seem like tedious and unnecessary details, but in the long term it might save your time.
