Admissions to Skytte’s international programmes

The admission period for the next 2020/2021 academic year in the University of Tartu for international master's degree programmes ended on March 15, as planned. According to preliminary statistics, the Faculty of Social Sciences as a whole received 1,023 applications, of which more than a third, or more precisely 389, were applications to the MA programmes of the Johan Skytte Institute for Political Studies.

"It is a great pleasure to acknowledge that the number of applications for all three curricula of our institute has increased again compared to last year. The number of applications also confirms that the research and teaching quality of the Skytte Institute in the field of international relations and comparative politics have proved themselves in the current world situation," Olga Bogdanova, Deputy Head for Academic Affairs of the Skytte Institute, commented on the total number of applications submitted.

Democracy and Governance programme had 125 applications
European Union – Russia Studies programme had 57 applications
International Relations and Regional Studies programme had 207 applications

Compared to the previous year, there were no major changes in the applicant resident countries, which proves that we have found regions where there is a need for specialists with the University of Tartu diploma.
"Also as soon as the situation allows, we remain bringing the experts in today's world politics to talk to our students and the entire university. Both from Estonia, and the European Union and actually from the whole world," Olga added.

The assessment of international MA degree candidates is already in process. And as of current state no changes are planned in the admission schedule for any of the Skytte Institute's programmes. This also applies to our Estonian programmes – BA degree in political science and MA in European studies. Documents can be submitted for both programmes until July 1 of this year.
