On Monday, 31 August at 10:00, the 2026/2027 academic year was opened in front of the university's main building. The programme of the ceremony included a musical performance by Puuluup.

The Estonian Research Council (ETAG) invites students to participate in the 2026 National Contest for University Students. The last day for submissions is 15 September. This year, the total prize fund exceeds €200,000.

The academic cycle follows the same rhythm every year, so the deadlines below apply whichever intake you belong to. Exact calendar dates for a given academic year are announced by the Institute.

Following the successful defence of the MA thesis, you must make sure you have completed all other curricular requirements.

The MA thesis is the culmination of the PGDA curriculum.

The PGDA programme offers two complementary ways to broaden your horizon beyond Tartu: spending one semester at one of the University of Tartu’s partner universities, or undertaking an internship.

The programme is built from five interlocking modules that together account for the full 120 ECTS of the MA degree.

The goal of the PGDA curriculum is to provide you with in-depth knowledge and practical skills related to contemporary democratic governance.

The PGDA master’s programme brings together two things that are usually taught apart: the study of democratic politics and public governance, and the study of what digital technology is doing to both.
