Skytte Talks: Talking about Peace in Times of Unrest

On Friday, September 13th, a seminar will take place titled “Talking about Peace in Times of Unrest”. The event aims to explore the evolving concept of peace, particularly in the context of the Baltic Sea Region. The event will be held in English.

Time: September 13th, 14:15-15:45
Place: Tartu, Lossi 36, room 307

The seminar will feature speakers including Gertrud Åström from the Women’s Baltic Peace Building Initiative, Yurii Kondratyk from the University of Tartu, Asta Maskaliūnaitė from the Baltic Defence College, and David Ilmar Lepasaar Beecher from the University of Tartu. The discussion will be moderated by Sandra Hagelin.

The speakers will explore how peace is redefined over time and across different contexts. The Baltic Sea Region serves as a pertinent backdrop for this discussion, particularly in light of the shifting security policies and challenges following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. This event brings together speakers from Sweden, Estonia, and Ukraine to delve into the nuances of conceptualizing peace.

“This seminar encourages us all to consider how and when our understanding of peace is challenged or confirmed,” said Sandra Hagelin. The event promises to provide valuable insights into the nuances of conceptualizing peace in today’s complex geopolitical landscape.

The seminar is free of charge and for everyone interested.
