Yesterday, on May 14th, the Skytte Institute once again had the pleasure of welcoming Dr. Paul Meerts who gave an exclusive master class training session for International Relations and Regional Studies MA students.
The session was titled "International Negotiations Processes" and involved students engaging in several hands-on simulation exercises. In one exercise, the students had to reach a unanimous agreement regarding a conflict situation -- all the while taking into account the interests specific to the countries they were representing. The students also took part in a practical exercise designed to reveal the biases that one or another culture tends to ingrain in a negotiator and how differently people can perceive the same situation.
Dr. Paul Meerts is a Senior Associate at the Clingendael Institute in the Netherlands. He has over two decades of experience at training diplomats, civil servants and military offices from all corners of the world.
Dr Paul Meerts visited the University of Tartu at the invitation of Prof. Eiki Berg, programme manager of International Relations and Regional Studies MA programme.
