Workshop Announcement: “The Russo-Ukrainian War: Biopower and Necropolitics”

The Johan Skytte Institute of Political Studies at the University of Tartu kindly invites students and teaching staff to a workshop “The Russo-Ukrainian War: Biopower and Necropolitics”. The event is taking place on September 19 at 14:00.

This timely and thought-provoking event will explore the intersection of political power, war, and the control of life and death through the lens of biopolitics and necropolitics. The workshop will feature a distinguished panel of experts:

• Sergei Medvedev, Professor, Charles University, Prague
• Andrey Makarychev, Professor, the University of Tartu
• Evgeniya Chirikova, political activist and founder of “Activatica” project.

The workshop will consist of two presentations followed by discussion:

• The book “Biopower in Putin’s Russia: From Taking Care to Taking Lives” (CEU Press, 2024)
• The documentary “Prisoners, The System of Terror” (2025).

The event will take place at the University of Tartu's Social Sciences Building (Lossi 36) in the room 306. All are welcome to attend!
