Students visited the Supreme Court of Estonia
Students from the Democracy and Governance programme toured the Supreme Court of Estonia on March 14.
The visit was within the framework of the course on Democracy and Democratic Institutions, and this week's topic was constitutional courts. The Estonian Supreme Court is interesting in that the Constitutional Court is a sub-chamber of the full court, and therefore it is possible to study how overarching judicial issues interact with constitutional matters. The students were welcomed by Ms Liis Lindström, Legal Advisor to the Chief Justice, and Dr Katre Luhamaa, Advisor to the Constitutional Review Chamber.
In addition to offering a tour of the Court's Grand Chamber, the hosts provided extensive background on the workings of the Court as well as an analysis of its most consequential rulings over the last decade.
