On 20 February at 12:15 in Lossi 36–214, Jonatan Vseviov, Secretary General of the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and alumnus of the Johan Skytte Institute of Political Studies will deliver a public lecture "Diplomacy in a Time of Geopolitical Turbulence".
For years now, the world has been undergoing changes that affect us all: Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine, domestic and foreign policy tensions in the United States, China’s rise as the world’s leading economy, and questions about Europe’s future. What choices does this situation present for Estonia’s foreign policy? As the 108th anniversary of the Republic of Estonia approaches, these issues will be discussed in a guest lecture by Jonatan Vseviov.
Jonatan Vseviov has been serving as Secretary General of the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs since February 2021, bringing extensive diplomatic and strategic experience to the role. Previously, he was Estonia’s Ambassador to the United States from 2018, following a decade at the Ministry of Defence where he played a leading role in shaping Estonia’s national and international defence policy. With a strong background in transatlantic relations, NATO policy, and strategic planning, Vseviov’s career reflects a consistent focus on diplomacy as a core instrument of Estonia’s security and foreign policy.
Drawing on his extensive experience in diplomacy, transatlantic relations, and security policy, Vseviov will reflect on the role of diplomacy in navigating today’s rapidly changing international environment. The discussion will be opened by our Visiting Professor of International Relations and Diplomacy Alar Streimann.
The lecture is open and everyone interested are welcome to attend.
