Open Discussion with German Ambassador Jan Scheer

An open and interactive discussion with Jan Lars Christian Scheer, Germany’s Ambassador to Estonia, will take place on 6 March from 14:30 to 16:00 in Lossi 36-307. The event will be moderated by Stefano Braghiroli.

Ambassador Scheer, who has served as Germany’s Ambassador to Estonia since 2025, will engage with students in a flexible, dialogue-based format. Participants are invited to raise questions and share perspectives on a broad range of current political and security issues.

About the Discussion

The conversation is open to a wide range of topics, including German domestic politics, European security, and broader shifts in today’s international order. Questions may also touch upon developments on NATO’s eastern flank and Germany’s role within the Alliance in the context of ongoing geopolitical change.

The Ambassador has expressed a strong interest in fostering a genuine exchange of ideas and encouraging active student participation.

About the Speaker

Jan Lars Christian Scheer studied law with a focus on international and European law at the University of Passau. During his legal training, he completed placements at the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs and the German Embassy in Tallinn.

Since joining the German foreign service in 2003, Ambassador Scheer has held a range of diplomatic and policy positions. His career includes postings in Pretoria and Bangkok, as well as roles within the German Federal Foreign Office and advisory positions at senior political levels. In 2025, he assumed leadership of the German Embassy in Tallinn.

The event will take place in English, and is open to everyone interested.
