Old Enemies, New Allies: The Gaza Crisis and the Israel-Egypt cooperation
On Monday, 12 November, Johan Skytte Institute of Political Studies will hold a seminar "Old Enemies, New Allies: The Gaza Crisis and the Israel-Egypt cooperation".The event starts at 16:15, Lossi 36 – 214.
For the first time in 11 years of siege, there is a reasonable chance to solve the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The sweeping changes that have gripped the Middle East in the wake of the Arab Spring have pushed Egypt and Israel into an unprecedented period of cooperation. As the region awaits the result of talks between Israel and Palestinians mediated by Egypt, this presentation will take a retrospective look back at how a country that once swore to ‘drive Israel into the sea’ found itself in this position. Moreover, the presentation will explore Israel’s Gaza policy; the "War Between Wars," its implementation from 2006-2018 and its failures to terminate the Palestinian struggle, nor achieve reconciliation.
