Kristiina Tõnnisson elected Head of Skytte Institute
At the meeting on 16 June, the Council of Johan Skytte Institute of Political Studies elected Dr Kristiina Tõnnisson, Lecturer in Public Administration, for the position of Head of Institute.
Tõnnisson identified the organisation of studies and personnel management as some of the most important issues for her time in office. “In the context of the external crisis imposed on us, we should consider ways of going forward and benefitting from the changes. We should strive for a balance between online learning and face-to-face meetings. Now might also be the time to observe the job market and consider bringing in new people.” Additionally, Tõnnisson said she would like to see more engagement with the alumni community, in particular to increase the Institute’s contribution to the society.
Dr Mihkel Solvak, who has served as Head of Institute for the last three years, thanked the staff, faculty and students of the Skytte Institute for the warm work environment and fruitful cooperation. He will continue at the Institute as Senior Researcher in Technology Studies and team member of the Centre for IT Impact Studies (CITIS).
Kristiina Tõnnisson received her PhD from the University of Tartu in Public Administration and Social Policy. She has previously worked in several public and third sector organisations and served as an expert and consultant for multiple advisory boards and institutions. She was Director of the UT European College in 2009-2015 and Head of the Skytte Institute in 2016-2017.
The new Head will assume office on 1 August 2020 for a term of three years.
