On 9 April at 16:15 (Jakobi 2-217), Philipp Mittnik will talk about "Studying the History of Fascism and the Holocaust and its meaning for contemporary societies in Europe". The lecture will be held in English. Everybody interested in the topic is welcome.
In Austria the learning about the Holocaust has a big meaning. The lecture shows how the school curriculum is set up to present the most important issues. Beside this some projects are presented to improve the learning about this important topic for Austrias society. As a former perpetrator nation the commemoration is very important. But, as in so many other European countries the far-right-wing parties have difficulties to differentiate their self from this part of history.
The event is part of International History Seminars, and is guided by the motto: “national history cannot be understood without the framework of international history” (Hans Rothfels, “Zeitgeschichte als Aufgabe,” Vierteljahrshefte für Zeitgeschichte 1, 1953).
