On December 4th, Martin Mölder will host a seminar offering an up-to-date look at the shifting landscape of Estonian politics.

Little more than a month ago Estonia held local elections, which, among other things, were a reality check for the current government. The latter enjoys historically low approval ratings not only in terms of Estonian political history, but globally among democratic countries. In virtually no other country has a government endured when the support for the governing parties has been this low.

In little more than a year, the next parliamentary elections will take place and if the situation does not change, we will see a dramatic shift in power. In short, there are interesting times ahead in Estonian politics.

This seminar about Estonian politics is first and foremost for foreign students at the Skytte institute. I will talk about the recent history of Estonian politics, about the results of the local elections, the current standings of the major parties and what all can hope and fear over the next year and a half.
