Former MEP Jan Mulder meets the students of the Johan Skytte Institute

On March 17, Jan Mulder – former Member of the European Parliament (MEP) – will participate to a roundtable discussion with students on the topic “Europe under stress. Which way out of the cris(e)s”?

The discussion does not only aim to map the current challenges to the process of European integration in these critical times of global chances, but also to explore future scenarios and foreseeable trajectories and their potential impact on the EU’s developments. The roundtable will take place at 16.15-17.30 at Lossi 36-103, Tartu.

On March 18, Mr. Mulder will give a keynote lecture on the topic “The future of the European Union in a changing Europe” at 17.00-18.30 at Lossi 36-214 within the framework of the Eastern Platform – Tartu seminar “Post-soviet space between the EU and Russia. The state of the crisis” organized by the Johan Skytte Institute of Political Studies of the University of Tartu and the Centre for EU-Russia Studies (CEURUS) in cooperation with Eastern Platform-Platform Ukraine, a multidisciplinary project based at the School of Slavonic and Eastern European Studies (SSEES), University College London.

Mr. Mulder’s participation is supported by the European Parliament Former Members Association (FMA).

Jan Mulder (born on 3 October 1943 in Diever) is a Dutch politician and former MEP for the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD), a member party of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe. He has served as a MEP from 1994 to 2014. Mr. Mulder was vice-chair of the European Parliament's Committee on Budgets and its Committee on Budgetary Control from 2004 to 2007.

On 16 January 2007 he was elected one of the six quaestors of the European Parliament.
He was a substitute for the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development and the Committee on Fisheries. Jan Mulder is a member of the Spinelli Group, an initiative founded with a view to reinvigorate the strive for federalisation of the European Union (EU).
