Master Class in International Negotiation Processes by Dr Paul Meerts
On April 12th, the second session in the Series in Master Class Trainings for the International Relations and Regional Studies MA programme took place in Tartu.
This session “International Negotiations Processes “ was carried out as a training seminar by Dr Paul Meerts who is a Senior Research Associate at Clingendael - Netherlands Institute of International Relations, as well as a Visiting Professor at the College of Europe in Bruges.
Over the last 25 years, he has trained diplomats, civil servants and military officers all over the world on the topics of international diplomacy and negotiations. At the beginning of his training seminar, Dr Meerts admitted that there is little theory on international negotiations, and it is definitely a practice-led area. Following that, the main focus of the seminar was on simulation games, during which the participants could practice reaching an agreement in a conflict situation.
Dr Paul Meerts visited the University of Tartu at the invitation of Prof Eiki Berg, programme manager of International Relations and Regional Studies MA programme.
